The plot of this novel is an interesting one including murder, politics and a client who Madriani knows. Alex Ives wakes up in police custody in a hospital in Southern California one morning with a DUI and manslaughter charge from the previous night. He swears he had only one drink and remembers very little of the previous night. Paul takes the case and realizes that Alex knew the woman he is accused of killing, and this could become a death sentence trial.
Olinda Serna was a high powered Washington lawyer with a knowledge of many of Washington's best kept secrets. Enter another attorney, a Senator and an assassin who muddy the waters by trying to protect secrets that could blow up in their faces. As in every one of his books, Madriani is determined to get to the bottom of this case and make sure that his client finds justice in a corrupt environment.
The book was okay with some interesting characters and believable courtroom scenes. Politics mixed with murder always gives the reader food for thought and this author seems to pull it off well. This book will definitely please Steve Martini fans and probably earn him some new ones. After thirteen novels I am sure that I know as much about Paul Madriani as I ever will, and I have come to the conclusion that he just isn't my type, but there is a line up of people waiting to meet him. He could be perfect for you.
