Peter Slevin shows the many sides of Ms. Obama in a very interesting way. He begins with her giving a graduation speech in a troubled black neighborhood. Her words seemed all the more inspirational coming from a woman who actually lived those words. She grow up in a working class neighborhood and fought her way to the life she dreamed of having.
The author talks about her college experiences, her meeting the man who became her husband and the first black President of the United States, and the years that followed. He interviewed people who knew her and people who dislike her, and he always gives us a clear view of this strong and intelligent woman.
Politics aside, we are lucky to have had her in the White House over the past years, and Peter Slevin helps us to understand why.
