It starts in a dingy bar in southern Louisiana with two men drinking. Shaw Kinnard is a hit- man, and he watches as his target, Jordan (Jordie) Elaine Bennett, walks into the bar. Jordie is drop dead gorgeous, and Shaw decides she might be worth more alive than dead.
He is one of several people/groups who is determined to find the $30 million that brother Josh stole. The FBI is after the money and so is Josh's boss.
Sandra Brown knows how to build her characters and make even the worst ones somewhat relatable. She has a formula that seems to work well for her, and even though much of it is not difficult to figure out, she makes the journey interesting. The villains generally have a weak spot (often an attractive person of the opposite sex) and the protagonist is usually a perfect mix of strength and vulnerability.
This book starts out with a murder and a kidnapping. The main characters kept my interest, although I was conflicted over Shaw. On one hand he is good looking and sexy, and on the other hand he is...well...a hit-man. Jordie is a strong female character and is a great foil for Shaw. I did find it a bit draggy in several parts, but for the most part this is a plot driven, fast moving book with interesting characters and some descriptive settings. You can't ask for much more in a book, and I imagine Ms. Brown will most definitely have another best seller on her hands.
