As a fan of of biographies of first ladies, it was a pleasant surprise to find that her relationship with her famous husband was not the focus of this novel. The sisters were all prolific letter writers, and through these letters the author was able to show the both the rivalries and closeness these ladies had with each other.
We get a feel for what life was like during these turbulant times and how the first lady influenced her husband just as her sisters influenced her. Dear Abigail is a fun and informative read for American History buffs.
