Singh has created an alternate reality in this series that is engrossing and somehow believable. In this book, Ivy Jane, an empath who was severely damaged is engaged to see if empaths can somehow help save the Psy Race. Vasic, an Arrow, is assigned to protect Ivy. They are racing the clock trying to somehow stop the infection that is tearing apart the Psy and at the same time protect Vasic from death due to the failing mechanical gauntlet grafted to his arm.
Watching the Psy, and especially Vasic, begin to experience emotion is an emotional ride for the reader. The book is an exciting and suspenseful addition to the series. As always, the author incorporated humor along with suspense to create a truly enjoyable read.
I must admit that I was partial to the books featuring the Changelings and was a bit disappointed to read that Shield of Winter would primarily be about the Psy. Well, this book changed this reviewers opinion. I loved the book and am looking forward to the next installment about the Psy.
