Welcome to the world of dust. A long time ago the army let loose a lethal cloud of nanites, and every combustible fossil fuel in the world was rendered useless. Suddenly, some humans were able to create electricity. Sparks - they were called. Men were the strongest, and women weaker, and they were called to the Relo Cities to help pull their weight, earn their keep, and provide light in the darkness of the apocalypse.
Enter Lena Gracey. A woman with a powerful secret. She is a strong spark. So strong her parents hid her away from the world and told everyone that their daughter was dead. Lena ran away from the Relo City and lived alone in the desert, taking care of herself and bothering no one. Until Alex Reyes came along. He needed Lena. There's an uprising brewing. Sparks are tired of powering the world, used up like slaves until they wither and die. The Council of 9 will do anything to maintain the status quo, and Alex is committed to changing the world.
It's a bumpy ride as Alex and Lena come together to help the Sparks. It seems Lena isn't the only strong female Spark, and the Council is rounding up the others for nefarious purposes. Lena makes it her mission to save these girls. The tension between Lena and Alex is hot enough to burn you, and the action never stops.
Sparks Rising is the best book I've read in awhile. The premise is fresh, the world building immaculate. Corcino has me hooked on the Progenitor Saga!
