The President has decided to legalize drugs and reap the financial benefits that the drug lords have been enjoying. The cartels need to stop him and intend to cause his death. They know that it can't seem like an assassination, so they kidnap the daughter of the President's personal physician, Dr. John Van Duyn. He is told that to save his daughter he must poison the President. While the plot might seem somewhat familiar, the actual plot development pushes it ahead of the pack. The reader gets so caught up in the action, he/she is able to overlook some of the inconsistencies that crop up because the book was actually written quite a few years ago. Some things that made perfect sense in 1996 seem a little out of place today, but honestly, who cares. The characters are likable (or easy to hate , and the reader gets truly invested in the story.
F. Paul Wilson is a strong writer no matter which genre he decides to utilize , and I recommend that those who never read him begin today. I think those Wilson fans who somehow missed this book years ago will be happy to get another chance to discover it.
