Although her preference is to work with living patients, she agreed to fill the vacancy in Bloody Mary.
When she gets a call at 5:30 A.M. from her best friend Jack Lawson, the town sheriff, she knows it isn't a social call. The murder of Fiona Murphy was not unexpected. Her husband had been abusing her since they married, and now she is found raped and beaten to death on the side of the road. She had told her sister she was leaving her husband, George, and it seemed likely that George didn't take the news well. It should be an easy case to solve, but Jack has a feeling that George is being set up.
The story is a good one, filled with interesting characters. J.J. Has had some tough times, but she keeps her sense of humor, and that helps the reader deal with her past. Her relationship with Sheriff Jack is an asset to the story, and I can picture them being friends since playground days. The tension between J.J. and Floyd Parker, reporter for the local paper, also adds to the story. There is also an author that comes to town (love interest?) and dead bodies to deal with, and the mystery seems unsolvable at times.
Author Liliana Hart does bring it all together at the end, and she makes the reader feel sad to say goodbye to her characters. This is a great way to make sure that the next book in her series will be happily anticipated, and I, for one, am ready to read it.
