This time, however, something seems odd. This time The tele-evangelist isn't conning anyone. He really seems to be getting messages, and these messages are interfering with a number of unsavory characters. The mob wants him dead because he is ruining their gambling business, and there are those in the Vatican who have their own reason for wanting his miracle debunked.
Chercover does a good job in building his story and keeps the readers on their toes as Byrne protects the uncle he left so many years ago. I enjoyed the exciting moments, but I think I enjoyed the thought provoking moments even more. The author gives us much to think about as the plot unfolds and using Daniel's hunt for truth as a vehicle for the reader's hunt for the same truth worked quite well.
The characters were dynamically developed, and I found my interest in Daniel and his uncle grew as the story went on. There were definitely some "bad guys" to dislike, and there were members of the church that were far from heroic, but I believe that Chercover did a good job showing us the good with the bad. Definitely a story worth reading.
